MultimediaSep 11, 01:27 PMWe'll find out tomorrow

BTW...what is the high end Merom processor? Is there a lower end processor? If there is the higher, faster one would go into the MBP while the lower end C2D is in the MB so you still have a discrepancy that warrants a higher price point. :cool:Top Merom is 2.33GHz and should be standard on both top 15" and 17" models - def the 17". Bottom of Merom is 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz with a 2MB shared L2 cache. 2GHz, 2.16GHz and 2.33GHz models have a 4MB shared L2 cache.

That's why the 2GHz Merom MacBook will be such a strategicly positioned superior product for the money and why the mini will still be crippled even when it switches to C2D at the same speeds. 2.33GHz is only 16.5% faster - not so much that you would even notice most of the time.

Only reason Merom MBP may not be announced tomorrow is for marketing reasons - not because it isn't ready. While they continue to manufacture them and build up a large inventory, we may have to endure these other product announcements so Apple can get all the heat focused on them until later this month when they can have the new MBP deployed worldwide in large quantities and be able to say "on sale today." and "Let the feeding frenzy begin."

On the other hand, because of Apple-Expo Paris, I think the MBP still has a better than 50% chance of being introduced tomorrow. Three years ago they introduced the revoluitonary Aluminium 15" PowerMac G4's @1.25GHz with USB 2 and FW 800 for the first time in a mobile Mac. I bought one a month later when Panther was introduced.

bboucher790Apr 20, 01:49 AMI'm on the 3GS > iPhone 5 > iPhone 7 upgrade sequence. I'm glad to be on it. I don't like to be a Beta tester. If there is an unseen design flaw (antennagate), it will give Apple a full year to "hopefully" fix the issue. I plan on using this phone without a case, so I don't want any antenna issues. I'm doubtful the iPhone 5 will have a better antenna. The Verizon iPhone has the same issues as the ATT iPhone. If Apple was going to fix it, they would have fixed it then....

asdf542Mar 30, 11:19 PMApplication Launcher is horrendous. Moving an app each icon at a time, and restarting after command+alt+control deleting applications brings them back. If you could command+click on more than one app to arrange them, that's an improvement. Beyond that, it's an implementation that makes more sense on a multi-touch iOS device than a desktop OS. FAIL

Mission Control - I agree, an improvement. A bit buggy, but it is convenient to see Expos/Spaces/Desktops unified (although I loathe the 2-dimensial/linear "Spaces" implementation, "Snow Leopard" had it right. An iOS Springboard "Spaces" on a desktop system is counterintuitive Mr Jobs, especially for those who use spaces on a projector for demonstrating different desktops quickly in lectures, presentations, etc. This is beta/unfinished software. What the hell do you expect?

As for the rest, applications such as "MacPilot" already have the ability to utilize those functions (and ad-hoc AirDrop is interesting but unless you are with another nearby Lion system and both are present to "accept" a transfer, it seems rather meh).'MacPilot' is a mess of multiple functions that do not replicate native API's that are always enabled for use. Wow you have to click accept? Good. Why would you want the possibility of a bunch of random garbage sent to you without your consent?

The lack of color in the system icons is god awful. Color graphics are much more easily identified than a scaled down grey icon.

Stroop effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroop_effect)

This is very relevant in working as it distracts and takes longer to identify aspects that lose inherent and easily characterized qualities. If there isn't an option for this in the GM/Commercial build there better be a patch ala iTunes.rsrc to bring back sidebar color icons.

Cool story bro, I was never talking about the actual UI elements.

andiwm2003Apr 25, 09:58 AMHow so? Everything he said fits the facts as we know them. There is NO evidence that this information gets transmitted to ANYONE, and believe me people are looking hard to prove otherwise. So this makes Steve look like he's telling the truth.

maybe Steve is right in saying that apple is not tracking us. however my iPhone is tracking my movements and stores the data in a unencrypted format that everyone can read out who has access to my phone.

that is the point that apple is critizised for. this is a gaping security hole! nobody has claimed apple is using this information for malicious purposes.

however Steve answered the question if apple is tracking users. a classic strawman.

TedSlawskiAug 7, 06:02 PMJust ordered my Mac Pro!! :D

Quad 3Ghz, 4GB ram, 250GB HD + 500 GB HD, X1900 XT 512MB, Bluetooth+Airport, wireless keyboard and mouse, 1 Superdrive (holding out for BluRay) 30" ACD... $8264.23
Estimated Ship Time... 3- 5 Weeks

This is gonna be good.
I got the base model, really don't find that graphic cards make much difference to me, RAM is usually less than half of what Apple wants in the aftermarket, putting my lightscribe in the other optical bay, Hard drives are usually close to free with my Staples office rewards, so I'll pick up the pieces to deck it out while I wait 3 weeks to get mine. Plus the place I bought it from gave me a $1200 trade in on my moderately upgraded original 2gig G5. I envy the 3gig processor though but that was financially just out of reach.

jholznerAug 3, 11:40 PMMBP Merom anyone? Appleinsider has always been reliable...so this may happen. This WWDC is gonna be great!

I'm gonna go on record and say they will NOT intro new MBP at wwdc. Some sales of the current MBP are better than none and if they they intro a new one they will not sell any and probably just take pre orders. Not gonna happen. They will wait until late August or early September to announce them when they are actually ready.

Reach9Mar 28, 12:06 PMWow, this has to be bs. I cannot believe Apple won't introduce any hardware in WWDC '11.
They're planning on stretching the iPhone 4? Good job Apple, don't complain about losing customers now. If Apple releases the next iPhone after 2 years, then they are officially going to lose whatever market share they had.
I'm still going to wait for another announcement because every report said that there would be an iPhone 5 this summer, it makes no sense.

The iPhone 4 was a real refresh considering it was the first redesign in 2 years. The 3Gs was a smaller refresh than the iPhone 4 yet you still own one.

So in your world a 'real refresh' is when the externals change? Don't judge a book by it's cover, the 3GS was a massive upgrade.

Rustus MaximusMar 30, 08:56 PMI think the new iCal looks pretty nice. Especially in full-screen mode.

As a matter of curiosity, does full screen mode offer any benefit to anyone other than laptop users? I know not everyone has dual 27" monster displays, but I'm finding it hard to see the benefit other than for those with smaller screen real estate.

George CarlinApr 7, 08:11 PMI don't know if I buy this whole shortage thing.

If there is such a big shortage, why aren't people/businesses creating more production plants and capitalizing on the demand (which is only getting started from the looks of it). Where there is serious demand there is serious $$$ to be made!

It seems like basic economics to me but I've been wrong before...

Lg and Samsung both are completing multi billion $ plants mid 2011 for OLED panels that next gen iPhones and iPad's will use - Apple has already ordered over $7 billion $ of production to run on these lines.

wclyffeFeb 3, 11:39 AMI purchased the TOMTOM app early on and paid $99 for it. One week later, I found it posted in the App Store for $49.99 and today, a couple of weeks after that, the price is $59.99. I have searched the App Store site, iTunes Store AND the Apple site and do not understand how to find a Customer Service Link to ask about a refund for the difference in price. Does anyone know how to reach Customer Service for the APP Store? Thanks in advance...

Would love to know if you received some sort of a refund from Apple or TomTom....let us know.

d0minickMar 28, 10:14 AMWhy because it doesn't have a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM

LOL that is exactly why. Plus OS improvements, better notifications, FM radio, at least hspa+. These are things that i would love. I love my I4, but it has a lot of room for growth and it does need to stay up with the competition. And to say otherwise, IMO, means stagnant technology because if Apple does not compete, every one gets complacent.

MultimediaSep 15, 10:24 PMI can't see Blu-Ray at all.

If it were, I'd figure it'd be an option due to the cost of the drives. Sony offer a laptop in with and without forms and the "with" model costs an extra $1700... but right now I just don't think there's demand.

Based on that, it doesn't seem likely to me.

Then again, I can't see them making the case any thicker than the last-gen PowerBooks, either.

We'll find out soon enough.Internal Sony 5.25" ATAPI EIDE Blu-ray Drives Cost $750 At Fry's. So an internal mobile Blue-ray probably cost over $1,000. Plus I agree with all of the above. It's too soon. Blu-ray blank media is incredibly expensive - Prohibitively so - almost $1/GB - IE about $50 per 50GB and $25 per 25GB Blu-ray blank.

Conventional Single Sided DVD blanks are down to about 5/GB. I'd say that's a fairly large MEDIA COST GAP that only time will reduce. Until then, we've got quite a wait until the professionals drive up demand to the point where prosumers can rationalize a higher price of <20/GB or so - IE where the $1.50 price of 8.5GB Dual Layer DVDs is now - about $10 per 50GB and $5 per 25GB Blu-ray blank. Make sense? Or do any of you see it another way?

dongminJul 21, 02:26 PMIt'll be quite an action-packed WWDC, if all these rumors pan out--which of course they wont.

-Leopard preview
-Mac Pros
-new iPod Nanos
-true video iPods
-iTMS movie downloads
-MacBook Pros with Meroms

Crazy. I'm betting against the consumer-related announcements. And hoping for MBPs with new enclosure and features.

Hildron101010Mar 30, 08:01 PMAre there any new internet or network features? Is internet access built in differently to take advantage of the cloud as the major news sources claim?

More to the point, I'll be interested in the new focus after 10.7 b/c the new team head is focused on internet tech and cloud services I want to see something like Chrome OS but can run native apps with a radically new UI, something simple like Sony's Rachel UI for the Xperia X10, or the PS3 UI or even iPad UI...

Also, new filesystem for the Love of God please! License something or develop your own HFS+ is old and dead. We should, at minimum, have a 64-bit system, with clones, and full disk encryption. Maybe links to cloud/web services in a unique way no one have thought of yet Just get rid of all the redundancy and crap to make a super efficient machine

I still think HFS+ is great. And they do have full disk encryption. I don't know why you thought they didn't, but they do. And what do you mean by a 64-bit system? The kernel already is 64-bit with the support for 32-bit apps.

Mac'nCheeseApr 9, 08:07 PMWhich orifice did you pull the "*" from??? :p

The answer is 2, not 288 (it can't be that)

Following PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction):

9+3=12
12*2=24
48/24=2

2 is the final answer.

As I stated above, you are missing an Important rule of pemdas. When you get to multiplication/division or addition/subtraction, you go left to right. So: 48/2 is 24. And 24 *12 is 288. If u don't believe me, just google pemdas and u get the rules:

Mister SnitchMar 27, 10:43 AM"2011: Year of iPad 2."

If you want to hang 'no iPad 3 in 2011' on the technicality of a slogan, remember: An entire "year" of iPad 2 would have required a launch on New Year's Day, at midnight. That didn't happen. So, a slavish adherence to the slogan is not a reason we wouldn't see an iPad 3 launch in the fall.

In that event, the BULK of the year still would have been the 'Year of iPad 2', if not literally every single day of it. By year's end, it's pretty safe to say the majority of tablets in use will in fact be iPad 2's. That's enough to fulfill the slogan, if such a fulfillment is something anyone's looking for.
