BuiltApr 3, 05:53 AMThe only thing worse than trolls in threads like this are posters (like yourself) who suffer from Yogi Bear Syndrome.
To say that "virtually every" iPad 2 has a backlight problem simply makes you look like an idiot. There's no way you can know this, and basing your assumption on the number of posts in a forum - be it Apple's or someone else's - just make you look foolish, especially considering most forums are populated by just a few people. The reality is that 99% of iPad 2 users probably don't even know that there is an iPad forum on the internet!
Case in point: count the number of times YOU'VE posted your BS here, and the 9 or 10 people who bothered to answer you. That's already taken up more than 4 pages by itself. Case rested.
...So what does it say about YOU that you feel the NEED to respond. You sound like another one who needs to get out more.

dguisingerAug 7, 08:08 AMI just find that the Windows Firewall gets in the way. Incredibly irritating after a while...
The OS X firewall is perfect IMHO. I've never had problems with it blocking apps I don't want it to block...
Probably because most apps that use non-standard ports are server apps (most likely not something you are using) or games (most likely not ported to OS X)
I find it comes in quite handy; I've had it many times where I didn't know an application goes online and reports something to the manufacturer and it pops up a note asking if i want to allow the program to do that. Thats not getting in the way, its keeping the programmers honest.
Sure, the firewall does its job, but users don't know how to tweak it, they barely know how to turn on a computer. A firewall that gives them feedback is a great help to helping someone understand the vulnerabilities of a system... i bet most people dont know how many programs report information about you back to the manufacturer....

GregAMar 22, 04:10 PMAn email from Steve Jobs (edit: last September) isn't exactly recent...
That said, I do think it's possible that Apple might re-invent the classic. If they want cloud portability with some data stored on MobileMe, all on the "personal cloud" via back-to-my-mac, some on my iPhone etc - then a really large portable device might be very popular.
ie: For someone who regularly uses large data files and programs, and moves between machines on different networks - being able to place an iPod Classic (plus bluetooth & NFC?) next to any random Mac and have full access to all your programs and files WITHOUT needing an Internet connection could be really useful.

charlesdjones1Apr 12, 06:36 PMAfter owning every iPod out there, I can honestly say Apple's next approach to the Classic lineup could be something familiar yet adding updated features to take advantage of the newest tech, but no major changes to an otherwise timeless layout. I still use my 80gb model, and wouldn't change anything personally. I've used the Touch, the Nano, and the Classic, to me, for pure music enjoyment the Classic is all I will ever need or use. I have spliced together a possible direction Apple could/ would go in, and I believe it makes the perfect iPod Classic. Basically, anyone familiar with the older Nano style Touch Wheel is going to be right at home, as the the wheel is smaller by about 25% compared to the Classice, but still being more than accessable. At the same time adding a larger, higher def screen makes viewing song selection, videos, podcasts, and coverflow much easier and appealing to the eyes now, yet using todays AMOLED screen which is lighter, brighter and easier on the battery life. A standard 320 gb hard drive keeps you up to date on all the latest hi def content that is released over iTunes, but keeping a smaller overall form factor makes it lighter in the pocket. These are my ideas which I feel would be popular for newer users and older ones as well. Just for an added bonus, you could implement a streamlined touch interface using the classic style menu, adding nice features such as the App Store and even some touch based games.

asphalt-proofSep 1, 02:08 PMOH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!!!
I remember when there was speculation about a 19" iMac being released (back in the g4 days or, as I call them, the Bad Ol' Days). There were some there that totally pooh-poohed the idea and predicted it would bite into sales of Powermacs. Didn't happened. I think the 23" is a natural evolution and will buy one as soon as my wife allows me to. (been working on my wheedling and whining).
Can't wait til the 12th.

~Shard~Nov 15, 08:51 AMThis is very cool, however I think the article says it all:
"unless you do work normally relegated to high-end workstations, perform massively multitasking workloads, or just want the bragging rights, eight cores is definitely overkill...at least for now."
Of course at some point 8-cores will be the standard and will be slow compared to the 32-core systems, but until that happens, I think quad-core would suit me just fine. Hell, I'm getting by with a single core G4 right now with no complaints, so this isn't a big deal for me in the grand scheme of things! ;)

mdntcallrJul 14, 01:09 AMSo, how long till it comes to laptops? :D
And on top of that, its only going to be a viewer, right? I mean have they created any Blu-ray burners, yet?
I really don't want to buy a Macbook Pro until it has Merom, 802.11n, and blue-ray, cause I know those are all going to be standard in less than a year and I can't afford to have a crippled laptop for 3 yrs.
Hopefully it won't be too far, I've saved enough cash.
I am in the same boat. Want All of that, a better graphics chip and the ability to upgrade direct from apple a 160 gb hard drive internal.
I Honestly don't believe it should take too long to include in the mac pro or macbook pro, Sony currently has a tower and a laptop both with Blu-Ray. so lets get both types of devices to get this.
Ideas? Call of Duty: Black Ops

4GodAug 29, 03:32 PMWell, may be off topic but the shipping times on the MacBooks has been inreasing on the Apple Store online U.S. since yesterday. They were at 3-5 business days yesterday and now they're all at 5-7. Could be something, could be nothing.
EDIT: Also, the 17" iMac was at 24 hrs and the 20" iMac was at 1-2 business days when I checked yesterday and now they are both at 1-2 business days.

lannimApr 9, 09:29 PMOf course I can, first thing I learned. How did I learn? My dad threw me the keys in two feet of snow and told me to go to the store. I'd love to still own one but my wife refuses to learn it, or doesn't have the mental capacity to so im stuck with automatics

ethernet76Sep 6, 10:47 AMi agree. i would never buy a computer that didn't have a dvd burner....and i'd never advise someone else to either
Remind me to never ask you for computer advice.
The parents bought a top of the line g4 iMac back when superdrives were 2x.
They still haven't used the superdrive to burn a dvd.

urbanjApr 26, 03:00 PMdoes apple compare themselves with other brand using the term "apps"
If they do I'd think you'd have to say it's a generic term since apple is calling the stuff run on other devices apps as well.

aafuss1Aug 29, 09:07 PMHuh? Why would a BR drive make any more heat than a 12x or 24x DVD drive? Hint: it won't. It's a disc that is the same size and weight and spinning at the same speeds... the only change is the wavelength of the laser reading the disc.
Decoding the data will take some juice, which will make some heat, but no more than any other CPU intensive task.
The tray load drives I've seen internal photos of have fans in the drive itself.

NameUndecidedApr 3, 08:59 PMIn DP1, when fullscreen Safari was working proper for me, I just setup a keyboard shortcut to hide and unhide the address bar/toolbar when needed. Command+apostrophe. Not a big deal at all.

ender landMar 19, 10:30 AMI sort of support this, but as has been said before I think its time that America puts a heavier burden on allied nations to provide military assistance for UN resolutions.
America is constantly being blamed for policing the world and I think it is a criticism we often deserve.
But if the UN / international community is willing to allow/support the enforcement of a no fly zone. Than they should bear equal responsibility for the execution of the movement, the US shouldn't be providing 90% of the military support and funds.
Bingo.
The USA will probably get all of the blame for mistakes or things which happen too, regardless of involvement... I really would like the USA to take a much less active role in this than I expect it will do.

Can we please talk about the subject of the thread, not about shagging farmyard animals?
mc68kOct 14, 01:40 PMThanks! I'll try it on my work computer, its a quad.yeah unfortunately there's no partial credit, it's either complete before the deadline or no points
scotpoleJan 12, 07:59 AMHow about
Apple iTunes and the apple store are available everywhere through the air.
Like .Mac your mac is automatically backed up so if you lose it, your files and account still exist at Apple, because through the air, they have been backed up. I mean we can trust Apple with our info right?
To get new software you get it through the air. You connect to Apple and download it to the appropriate device the way you currently buy a song and your credit card is billed.
All devices can transfer data through a high speed bluetooth, so you can backup at home to a DVD or a Hard Drive.(this one is a compilation of ideas already expressed in this thread).
MultimediaJan 2, 01:27 PMSpoke with an expert video editor last night and he thinks it's worth waiting for Stoakley-Seaburg (http://techreport.com/etc/2006q4/clovertown/index.x?pg=1) in the 8 core Mac Pro which he thinks is more likely to happen around May-June with a pre-announcement at NAB perhaps. So while I hope the 8 core gets announced, I am probably not going to be the earliest of adopters after all.
Want to give my son a true widescreen video iPod for this past Christmas so will be looking for that as well.
iTV will be interesting but I'm not sure how it will fit in with my mix yet as I don't fully understand its advantages to date.
Will be more interested in visiting the Canon booth and taking a closer look at the HV10 (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=14059&WT.mc_id=C123719aven.com/) as my first HDV camera.
VeinticincoApr 3, 04:16 AMDid anyone else thing that was a really bad advert? They hardly showed the product fully at all!
As I posted above, I thought it was awful. But not for the reason you're suggesting. Not the best way to rate an advert. They're not all show 'n tells. No need to be especially if your product has global brand recognition, and all about the experience.
Case in point...
