I, for one, miss my old GeForce 8800.

I have a Radeon HD 5770 now, and there are these little annoyances. For instance, when I run my bootcamp partition inside VMWare, the AMD driver software starts complaining. The GeForce didn't give a damn. Speaking of which, I had to install the .Net framework to install the AMD drivers. Kinda cheap. And every now and then I get a slight flicker in the screen. To be honest, I'm not sure if that's the Radeon, but I've never had it before.

Don't get me wrong, the card is performing superbly overall. But the driver side still needs some polish. (And that's a complaint I've been hearing for ages!)

All I have is the display core duo and one box stock core solo. Alot of the apple employees who work in the CompUSAs had extra days off this week due to the holiday (much needed) so they may not have been back into CUSA to let the staff know.

I checked around at comp usa, best buy and even the apple store to see if the mini's they had in stock would be reduced in price because of the new ones that came out.

Best buy and Comp USA had no clue that new models were released and would not budge in price. I dont know what the apple store policy is.

Shouldnt comp usa and best buy reduce the price of the core solo minis they have left?

cecildk9999Nov 28, 10:03 AMI know that it's not quite fair to compare the two right out of the launch (a baby product versus a mature one), but MS didn't help themselves by setting up this product to compete directly with the iPod. If they had tried to target a different market (maybe primarily video as opposed to music), they might have more success, and let the hype build from there. But the way they seem to be playing it now, they're going to just throw a lot of money into something that will be in Apple's shadow. It'll offer a compelling alternative to some, but will not necessarily convince too many to become switchers. :p

The latter is more likely, since its a music industry event, but one way or another, Logic is due for an upgrade. Seriously!

Perhaps not of interest to everyone, but important for the musicians here...

aiqw9182Mar 24, 04:46 PMOn the server, AMD has inexpensive 12-core, 4-way CPUs since some time. Now going for 16-core with Bulldozer (well, now it will be more like 16-core integer/8-core floating point).

The absolute bargain now are the 8-core, 4-way CPUs. You can have a 32-core machine for very little money.

The the next Atom will have a DirectX 10.1 GPU, meanwhile Bobcat Fusion already has DirectX 11 hardware and OpenCL.
AMD's CPU's are trash and they're cheap for a reason.

Oh and for someone who doesn't use Windows you sure seem interested in Windows only API's. Love all of those OpenCL applications you listed by the way. ;)

Capitalization wasn't the point. It's the context in which a term or _name_ is used. Windows vs. windows, App Store vs. appstore/app store. "My house has windows," "My computer runs Windows." "I bought this on the App Store," "Modern smartphones have apps that can be purchased from their respective app store(s)." I don't believe Apple needs to include "Apple/iOS/The" before "App Store" to be granted a trademark patent on the term, its style (font, image/icon, etc.), or its brand. It's my understanding that a trademark must include these things and more, which is something that cannot be generalized. (And if I'm not mistaken, the capitalization would at least assist, from a visual cue when looking at the written language, in determining the context of the term in simple sentences like I've presented.)

BC2009Oct 24, 01:24 AMDitto for me. I can't believe I waffled between 3GS, HTC Incredible, and iPhone 4. With 3GS 30% of my calls were dropped, with iPhone 4, 0%. Had it since July 5.

And remarkably Consumer Reports recommended the 3GS. Which drops more calls just like other smart phones drop calls. What CR did was take advantage of the media hysteria and jumped on the bandwagon with a review that would put them in the spotlight. I would respect them much more if they did not recommend previous model iPhones that got worse reception.

But their biased unprofessional review with the reviewer's little demonstration with the masking tape showed their bias and intent. They were simply out to take advantage of an opportunity to take wall street's favorite child down in order to get the spotlight.

Where was the "non-recommendation" on the first review that rated the iPhone-4 as the best phone ever? That was when it was popular in the media to praise apple - before antenna-gate. CR came off on this one like a politician wavering with public opinion. I always expected CR to uncover issues with products, not simply ride the media public opinion wave or worse to publish fiction to sell their subscriptions.

Full of WinMar 23, 03:00 AMGood. The classic controls are far superior IMO when using quickly and trying not to look at it. This is the reason I will not purchase an iPod touch for use in the car.

I've used iOS since June 2007 and it had never even got close to the perfection of the click wheel. When I go on any trip of more than 100 miles, I always take my 60 GB 5th Gen iPod. For me, part of it is space - but it's mostly for I/O.

It shows up in both full screen and non-full screen. Totally agree though, it definitely looks better and less distracting in full screen.

0815May 2, 05:04 PMApple sees the benefit of unifying how things work across OS X and iOS.

There are tons of people that don't know how to install or uninstall apps on their PC, but they do on their iPhone or iPad. By unifying, those people feel comfortable buying a Mac.

But than it should be unified ... not three different ways depending how you got/installed the app. Right now it looks there are three ways of doing it in Lion:

- click & hold
- just trash
- run uninstaller

Unfortunately it is only ONE of those ways depending how you got it.

I had a stock ATI 5850 in the Mac Pro for a while, OS X didn't like it but Windows ran it perfectly... in the end bit the bullet and bought a 5870 Mac edition for about twice the market value of a standard PC card!

Great decision though, the Mac now runs about 20 times faster... not just games either... the whole UI is great now (I guess thanks to OpenCL et al)

...and whoever decided the GT120 was a good card for a Mac Pro needs to be shot!

when the imac was updated the apple store said 24hrs the day before so it doesnt mean much
