rdownsApr 5, 01:17 PMHonestly, I hope Toyota tells Apple to stuff it.
Lame. You can be sure Toyota will capitulate to the Apple strong arm.
Not surprised! Toyota should not take it!

I love Apple for many reasons, but I also have a hard time with some of their ideology.
Don't give in Toyota!
Its our devices, and if we want to modify them for our own use, so be it.
Does anyone read the stories before commenting on them anymore?
You didn't even need to click to read the full story.
Toyota had agreed to do so to "maintain their good relationship with Apple," our Velti contact told me on the phone.

no, that gets said every year, and there's almost never any interesting releases there. It's not a big deal.

AidenShawMar 29, 08:36 PMYou are talking about imposing beliefs to a guy sporting a gay marriage signature (which I am all for, but I wouldn't want to push it down people's throats via my signature here, which btw is a political issue and the only way he gets away with is is because he's best pals with the moderators here)?
Political signatures are quite common on MacRumours (look up a few posts for a sig "Alright Republicans, if you act as stupid as the guys you replaced... your a$$ will be on the street as well!" and others publicizing a Japanese college). I don't agree with calling a "civil rights" issue a "political" issue - although political pressure is needed to ensure that civil rights are respected.
If I were "best pals" with the mods, I wouldn't be getting the occasional timeouts due to crossing the fuzzy line between debate and bickering.
All of a sudden people can't offer their prayers to people suffering in Japan, because Aiden Shaw doesn't believe in God...whatever lola wants, as the song goes... I would have banned this .... on the spot for calling someone's God a "spaghetti monster", it's one thing not to believe, and quite another to mock what someone holds sacred, but this guy is apparently un-bannable here...
You complain about "imposing beliefs", but asking people to "say a prayer" on the forum is certainly pushing one's beliefs on others. I suggested "best wishes" and "keeping them in your thoughts" as an alternative that doesn't involve supernatural beings.
And, by the way, the "flying spaghetti monster" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster) is part of a well-known movement (sometimes called the "Pastafarians") to preserve the concept of "separation of church and state" embodied in the US Constitution.
If you ever see the FSM emblem

DetlevJul 30, 06:23 AMNor, methinks this iPhone shall ever happen. What would Apple gain in becoming a cell phone provider? Its a nasty market with no concensus between camps.
I stated this exactly in a previous thread but I could change my stance if I could be convinced of one or more of the following were possible.
1. Could Apple improve their iChat to compete with the likes of skype, etc?
2. Could Apple provide such a service?
3. Could Apple create an iPod tele without removing what is already available in an iPod?
4. Could there be a iTel AV to connect to iChat AV.
Even if the photographer's visit was legit from the sound of it, it is an entirely new product so I'd have to assume that it was just another phone. Whomever they jump into bed with (service provider) would have to be big, really big. Another thing detracting from the story is that the telephone companies are notoriously slow getting product into their stores whereas when Apple releases something it is in store (Apple store that is) rather quickly. AND I don't see Apple selling another company's cell phone service in-store.

i think i will get one if they are reasonably prices but i would not pay more than 500 for it when I have a Macbook Pro

ravenviiMay 4, 09:56 PMI'd like to make sure of some things.
The villain started with 0 points. He then earned 2 points by taking two turns.
We did our thing
He took two more turns earning 2 more points for 4 total. He obviously used at least one point to make a goblin. So he had 3 or less points, depending on whether he bought more traps. They could be anywhere, even far from where we currently are (e.g., he could be putting defenses around his lair. )
Do I have that straight?
You got all that correct.

Bleubird2Apr 25, 09:21 AMCall me naive (or perhaps paranoid) but I've been assuming my location is being tracked since I bought my first smart phone years ago.
Yeah, I just assume if you're using a device that is connected to the internet in some way, you're being tracked in one way or another. We are constantly faced with privacy and technology issues. As someone else has already said, if you don't want to worry about privacy issues disconnect from the internet entirely http://www.theonion.com/video/google-opt-out-feature-lets-users-protect-privacy,14358/ (lol). If you want your location private, get away from smartphones entirely.

tigress666May 4, 02:58 PMAnyway, what happens if you whole hard drive dies?
What if you want to reinstall everything from scratch?
There is just too many what ifs
I thought about this and while I think having a CD is better for these reasons, I don't think it would leave you up a creek without a paddle.
Either you have an OS that supports Mac App store so you'd have a CD that would at least install that OS (and therefore you could install old OS and go back to Mac app store and reinstall Lion) or you'd have to buy the Lion CD anyways (but in this case if you lose the Lion CD you may be w/out Lion).
So, while the app store does have the advantage that if you buy through them, long as you have the CD from the previous OS (and probably not too expensive to buy a CD off of ebay, don't know, haven't checked) you can re install Lion. WHere as if you buy the CD and lose it, you'll have to buy Lion all over again (and I am betting Lion won't be as "cheap" as Snow Leopard as it isn't considered an incremental upgrade).
But... it also means more hassle if your hard drive does crash cause you'll have to install an OS twice.

In many ways, besides updating the performance hardware there's not a whole lot you'd expect from an update today. I mean, if Apple don't feel they don't have anything spectacular to add they might hold out until they do (remember 3Gs yawn) and focus on iOS development.
I believe that iOS instead will be the biggest evolution of iOS since 2.0 and the introductions of apps.
Contrary to what may most competitors seems to believe, apple customers don't come back for the hardware but rather the amazing software.

ErasmusAug 4, 10:05 PMI agree but think likely by Thanksgiving. I think mini will get the 1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo Combo and 1.87 GHz Core 2 Duo Superdrive upgrades thus ending the last Mac to have only one core as well as the end of all 32-bit Macs. :)
OK, being an Australian, and blissfully ignorant to the ways of the American, when is Thanksgiving? Before or after Paris?
I say new iPods at Paris, and maybe some software. It would be great if all Macs were Core 2 Generation before the Paris Expo.

bigbossbmbJul 22, 06:46 PMi'm still baffled why nobody's answered my question. anyone with a g5 powermac upgrade to an off the shelf video card yet?
i wonder about video card compatibility because i don't see a single driver on nvidia or ati for mac. and the specifications for the 1900 xfx and nvidia 7950 both don't even list mac compatibility. this is really making me think twice about buying from apple.
anyone please help??
It is definitely more difficult to find video cards for g5 powermacs. If ATI or Apple carry the card you want, then you're just find and it's very easy. I bought an X800 and swapped out my 9600xt for Aperture. Works great and was very easy to install.
Hopefully with the intel machines it will be easier to find cards, but it will depend on Apple. It is really up to them.
I've got a 9600XT for sale if anyone wants one :D

ergle2Sep 17, 02:24 AMIs a slim, slot loading, Blu-Ray drive even manufactured? I've seen a few tray loading externals and a tray loading internal, but not a slot loading Blu-Ray drive of any type.
No idea. Anandtech mentioned one on display at the CES 2006 which was back in January. I believe the timeframe for launch mentioned for release was 3Q06, which is now-ish.
The unit said 'Blu-Ray Disc, DVD Multi-Recorder', so I've no idea whether this means BD-ROM + DVD[+-][R/RW] or BD writable too. I'd guess at the latter as being more likely.
I still don't see it as likely to happen, except perhaps as a BTO option.

ingeniousNov 27, 09:11 PMWhy would I want to waste my time learning shorthand (which makes the assumption that TPCs could handle various forms of shorthand) so I could do through writing what I can already do at 70+ WPM via typing. But most tablets just let you write normally... they're not like PDAs that need Graffiti or something like that...

Chupa ChupaMay 4, 02:52 PMI think I still prefer a hard copy. If I download then I still have to burn a DVD for backup and emergency boot. I'd rather have a professionally burned copy that is going to be reliable long term.
Also I don't have a big pipe to quickly download a 3GB package. I'm living in the slow lane here w/ 2mbps DSL.
firestarterApr 22, 10:24 AMActually, you can get by with a mid/high level iMac now for most graphic design needs (photoshop, illustrator, etc) these days and even average video editing needs
Not if you care about colo[u]r management. While Apple continues its love affair with shiny screens, creatives need an alternative.

If you read, they said after a certain facility goes on, supposedly the new NC data center. It is very likely that there'll be a brand new version of MobileMe launching with it, along with iWork and Lala.

I'm still left wondering, why the delay if it's only a minor spec bump? I don't doubt the sept. release it just doesn't add up. Rumors of a later release started well before the quake in Japan so I don't think you can justify that as the cause.
This is what I am asking as well. The rumors are that Apple will be hanging their hat on a new iOS update, but it better be one heck of a chnge because as iPhones look now they feel somewhat old. Apple may say they don't want widgets for whatever reason but they sure add some pep to the screen and make the phone feel fresh.
