ECUpirate44Mar 28, 10:29 AMIf no new iPhone until 2012, then this further exemplifies Android = WINNING!
This makes no sense and thus hope it's just another BS rumor.
I agree. If theres no iPhone in that mean Android wins the smartphone market for the year. Apple would also lose many of the customers to Android whose contracts are up in the summer and they would be locked into 2 year deals with their droids meaning no iPhone in 2012 for them either.

balamwApr 11, 07:33 AMif we move to postadvanced math however, it is clear that "/" separates two expressions: 48 and 2(9+3);
- as someone already mentioned above, absence of the operator implies multiplication, so 48=4*8. now, everyone knows that by the reciprocal inversity properties multiplication is the opposite of division, therefore 4 multiplied by 8 must be equal to 8 divided by 4, which is most obviously 2 (on the left part of the expression);
- now to the right part. this is easy. Ignoring the round bracket (which as mentioned are uncool), you have 2*9+3, which gives you a very straightforward 21;
- so now we have 2/21, which as demonstrated above is equal to 21*2, which is (i hope no one disagrees on this) 42.
so please now stop with your earthlingy bickering: the answer is always 42. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Golf clap. Well done! However, on your next trip, I suggest you keep your distance from the improbability drive. :p
Now that we got the answer, I forget: What was the question again?
That statement means that 2(12) should be done before the division.
So then the answer is 2.
Please rephrase that with the variables x,y,a,b,c,d I was using in the post. It sure sounds like you are saying that just because there are parentheses around an expression, the operators adjacent to the parens gain some kid of precedence.
What do you make of the expression from the Wikipedia page?
10 - 3 + 2
Is that 9 or 5?
Let's force the issue a bit more, what is the value of:
10 - 3 + ( 1 + 1)
If the brackets/parens create some kind of precedence around them you should get the same answer as someone who is giving addition precedence over subtraction.

Clive At FiveNov 22, 02:44 PMYou break my heart. Something tells me that this won't be the phone for me. I would put money on it having the one thing I don't want - a camera. I don't want it, I don't need it, and it's a pain to have one.
Although, I was thinking that there would be just a couple of BTO options - maybe a camera and BT - not an entire gamut of BTO possabilities. I agree that too many would be expensive (and the firmware would end up too complicated).
I think I would sold on a camera if and only if it takes >3MP shots & syncs w/ iPhoto... and the phone costs less than $300. :-P

UmbongoMay 6, 08:19 AMI think they can pull it off. I watched as they went from Motorola 680X0, to PowerPC (which was huge) and then to Intel (hell froze over!) So this happening would not be the least bit surprising or concerning.
The difference is that PowerPC and then Intel processors were performing far better than what else was available. There is no indication that ARM processors are set to out perform what Intel can offer. This whole thread is based on a bit of news written by someone who is known to make things up and get emotional in his reporting, the day after ARM dropped nearly 8% due to news of Intel's next technological step.

HecubusProSep 16, 12:49 PMWhat's the possiblility of the new mbp being available in stores after the announcement? Is one usually required to order new products online or could I skip the wait by driving an hour to the nearest apple store?
Apple doesn't always have the product available in stores as soon as it's announced, despite that they (Steve) often says "available now." Ordering online or waiting for the store might be about the same amount of time. I know my apple store still didn't have the new ipods when I was in there yesterday, but they did have the new nano's.

EidorianMar 30, 10:56 PMI don't know why but my MBP 13 i7 2011 is showing "Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB graphics" on the About this mac screen on Display tab.:eek:
BTW I'm using an External Display.
That's the graphic core onboard the Core i7 die. It doesn't change to ATi graphics when you use something graphically intensive?It is the 13" Macbook Pro. It only has Intel HD graphics.

mrkramerApr 16, 11:46 AMAll this talk about income taxes is all the MORE reason why we need unprecedented tax reform here in the USA.
In my humble opinion, we should right now go to a flat income tax using the Steve Forbes flat tax plan, and start a process that four years from now ends all income taxation in favor of a consumption tax on new-production goods and services (the FairTax proposal, H.R. 25/S. 13). I cite the following advantages of this change:
Flat taxes are always very regressive, basically the reason why this is a bad idea, is that the people it effects are mostly the ones who can't afford it. and the rich will just sit on their money and not spend a lot and not benefit the economy.
And for the poorer people it would create more reliance on social security and medicare, because now what little money they used to have to save has been taken in the massive tax hike they would just get.
I'm not saying that we don't need reform of our tax system, but a flat tax isn't the way to do it.

QuarterSwedeApr 24, 05:45 PMon what basis? has the iPhone and iPad gone higher in price as it progressed?
Our budget for a MacPro is almost a quarter of what it used to be 3 years ago :)
Agreed. 5 years ago I paid $2700 for a 12" PowerBook. I can get a top 17" for that now and a 13" MBP for over $1,000 less.

They are not setting up for the Paris expo for a long time. There is no chance of this being for Paris, IMO. :)

iStudentUKApr 10, 12:00 PMBy adding the second set of (), you changed the equation, therefore the two different answers. As written in the original way, the answer 2 is clearly wrong.
I'm not saying that 2 is an incorrect answer, the equation is ambiguous. However, I assume the equation is written that way because it is done on a forum without formula writing ability and writing-

GregANov 27, 05:21 AMfind me a Tablet that costs less than a small notebook. No, you won't find it, sorry...
<snip>
And where are the tablets? NOWHERE, because they only fit the bills of us freaks desiring a nice pen-based Mac...
<snip>
Construction companies have used PDAs for years, including the Newton...and that's why a mere evolution of such products is more than enough.
You may have to consider that when there's a rumour "Apple is making a tablet".... that they may be making something that is not a pen-based Mac, and hence is cheaper than a small notebook. It may even be an evolution of the Newton.
You seem to spew a lot of reasons that tablets haven't worked in the past. I agree if Apple does the same as other tablet makers have in the past, it won't work. But I think we all agree with that don't we?
ps. No point abusing others' ideas.

twoodccMar 27, 12:22 PMall i can say is that it better be good! apple really has to play it's cards right to stay near the top with android. they have a better product really, but android is still overtaking from the sheer number of devices and carriers.

BrometheusApr 25, 10:26 AMyes there is a problem. because it's unencrypted and everyone with access to your phone can read the information. the software tool they published showed my travel of the last 6 month quite accurately.
I don't want someone picking up my phone from my desk at work and find out what trips to what company I did. (it works internationally btw)
also I don't think the IRS or other tax collection agencies need to know when I was where.:D
Fair enough, but hardly the same as Apple acting as big brother (not that you made that claim).

codyc815Apr 26, 04:51 PMyou guys are still in denial.
the fact is...most people dont want an iphone. the reports says it and the sales numbers proves it. its not about the limit availability of the iphone or contract issues...its just doesn't appeal to most people.
That's why, although they're not the main OS used, they are the number one phone supplier

macindorkApr 24, 04:31 PMYou do realise you can switch your multi-path policy to something like Round-Robin or Least used link or something and use both your fabrics at the same time, giving you double bandwidth (in your 4 Gig port configuration, giving you 8 Gbps, or in a 8 Gbps FC configuration, 16) right ? Actually, you should have a look at what it is set to, some versions of ESX and ESXi are completely retarded and set the default policy to use Fabric 1 only (older versions prior to 4.x didn't have a supported configuration for using both paths at the same time, the support was experimental I believe).
Or you can run FCoE or FCoIP and use dual 10 Gbps for FC on the cheap (I do realise HBAs can be pricey). Or heck, iSCSI over 10 Gbps links...
Also, looking at my current I/O statistics for one of our biggest ESXi boxes (about 20 VMs), I see we average about... 10 mbps over the fiber. ;) Servers aren't constantly writing at full bandwidth anyhow and the convenience of centralized SAN management trumps Direct Attached Storage any day of the week in a data center environnement.
Heck, I wish our DMZ servers could be attached to the SAN (stupid Security policies) so that I could actually grow the filesystems on which the file repository sits... seeing how Sun (now Oracle) wants to charge us over 10k$ for about 72 GBs of disks, just because the hardware is EOL'd and it lacks the 2nd controller so that we can use the drive bays that are free in it...
If I am not mistaken our PE 2970s are 10gig (x4), I do not know about the Equallogic (I'm just the "helper" on most of this anyway) but I assume it is 10gig as well. What makes this funny to me is that we should be able to use one physical link per server back to the equallogic and have greater throughput versus going from the 2950 to a 3com 4500 (1gig switch, I 10gig switch would be a great start here) and back to the equallogic. (that would throw out redundancy though)(Lead systems guy threw in a 4400 by mistake initally) Most of our VMs are file sharing servers instead of processing servers, I would think the higher the transmit speed the better. We also recently added an R715 and it likes to take the brunt of the load from the cluster (16 physical cores/32GB RAM in it vs 8/32GB in the 2950s) so it having greater throughput would be helpful. We are on 4.1, I will def look into the multipath policy, thanks :)
SodnerApr 7, 09:30 AMHa ha! Way to go Apple!!!! Kill the competition any way you can!!
Apple is doing everyone a favor saving them from the mistake of getting a RIM tablet.
OmmidApr 22, 01:05 PMdoubtful, this is a key switcher market... it would be crazy to axe the very thing that will continue to switch the PC builders/gamers over the next 5 years... this is a key ingredient to apple taking the industry over with time.
Agree with this, not likely.

asdf542Mar 30, 05:59 PMEnjoy your brand new 129$ Mac OS X latest revision (the most advanced, the most unique, the most... bla bla bla bla...) carrying more than XXX features (aka... just making the Mac OS X experience more iOS-alike so you get used to AppStore since soon you'll have to go through this method of delivery as there won't be any other one, because Mr. Jobs wants more money...)
Yep... I think that 129$ sounds quite ok, for nothing :D
Though I'm not surprise... there's nothing shocking that they can implement. This "update" is aimed at training people into AppStore (aka money)... and they even charge for it :D
I lol'd. No matter what people will complain. When Snow Leopard was released people wanted more UI changes and more features. Now when Lion is released all people want is under the hood improvements. SMH
dernhelmAug 11, 11:12 AMWhy would they give the Macbook that but leave the iMac with the original Core Duo? Doesn't make sense. I would think all three would get it or just the Macbook Pro.
The report out of China was about companies supplying macbooks, not the one's supplying the iMacs. They said nothing about the iMac because they weren't in that model's supply chain. I would expect the iMac to updated at the same time as well. I'm also betting that the macbook pro and macbook both get core 2 duo chips, with MBP getting faster ones with 4MB L2 cache, and MB getting slower ones with lower L2 cache.
